the whistler
The Whistler owes its name to the sound made by the numerous birds that land on its branches. Planted in 1783 in Águas de Moura, this cork oak has been stripped more than twenty times. In addition to its contribution to the industry, it is impossible to quantify its impact on maintaining the ecosystem and combating global warming. At 234 years old, the Whistler has been classified as a “Tree of Public Interest” since 1988 and is registered in the Guinness Book of Records as “the largest cork oak in the world”!
